During my time at Loughborough University, I have developed and gained many skills. Teamworking & Communication Skills - I had the privilege of collaborating with many students from different disciplines including Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Construction Managers, and Structural Engineers on several group projects. Teamwork and communication were essential to reach deadlines more effectively and efficiently. IT Skills - I gained knowledge in using CAD and BIM software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Revit which allowed me to produce building floorplans, Clash Detection, and 3D modeling for several design projects. I also used PowerProject which was used for planning different activities during a construction project in order to minimise costs and time delays. Management Skills - Had the opportunity to run the family business as a temporary Farm Manager which involved taking responsibility for the health and wellbeing of the animals, managing the land, maintaining and operating farm machinery, handling deliveries, and meeting with distributors. Another key skill I developed from farming was forward planning, this required setting daily goals, meeting targets, and avoiding clashes between different activities.
I recently took on the challenge of renovating our 16th Century family home which involved designing and managing the project as well as gaining practical skills from various trades such as masonry, plastering, and carpentry. During my work experience, I worked as an assistant architect which involved creating floorplans and visiting sites ensuring that the build was on track and that it followed the client's requirements.
