Internship opportunities with Bron Afon Community Housing

Who are we?

We are a social housing organisation, owned and run by colleagues and members whose passion is to make a positive difference to people’s lives. We are here to improve the quality of life and life chances of people living in Torfaen and neighbouring communities with a particular focus on supporting people who face disadvantages and exclusion.

Our Values

Our values are important to us, they guide how we work. They are REAL – Respect, Engage, Ambition, and Listen.

The scope and objectives for the internships

The Department of Asset Strategy and Investment (ASI) in Bron Afon has introduced an internship for two to three graduates/undergraduates to join our dynamic and technically skilled team, and specifically to be part of our journey to deliver the Welsh Quality Housing Standard.

The ASI is a technical function, with strategic and operational roles in relation to assets management, investment planning, data analysis and interpretation, project management and delivery, performance evaluation and monitoring, and technology and innovation research and development.

The Welsh Quality Housing Standard 2023 sets the requirements that all social housing is updated and kept in good condition so social tenants have the opportunity to live in a home that:

·        Is in a good state of repair;

·        Is safe and secure;

·        Is affordable to heat and has minimal environmental impact;

·        Has an up-to-date kitchen and utility area;

·        Has an up-to-date bathroom;

·        Is comfortable and promotes wellbeing;

·        Has a suitable garden; and

·        Has an attractive outside space.

The Standard introduces some technical challenges that the ASI are working through and preparing the business for. One of the most critical challenges is around decarbonisation and effective delivery of the improvements needed for our homes and customers. We feel this presents an opportunity for graduate/undergraduate students to join us and be part of the dynamic and fast-paced team.

What will the interns get involved with?

The internship will provide an opportunity for the two people to directly involve with the planning and delivery of WHQS 2023. This will be with specific technical aspects of:-

·        Data analysis and interpretation to further refine Whole Stock Assessment and Target Energy pathway, the two regulatory outputs that needs to demonstrate integration of decarbonisation as part of asset management and investment planning.

·        The delivery of investment to homes with decarbonisation retrofit measures and other critical outputs required to meet WHQS 2023.

·        Develop and refine a delivery process that can be adopted as business as usual to incorporate decarbonisation works to turnaround empty homes for our future customers.

During your time with the ASI team, you will be placed with one or all of the following functions:-

·        Asset Technical team

·        Asset Intelligence team

·        Investment Delivery team.

You will have an opportunity to work with the leadership team of the ASI, and will have a chance to observe strategic and operational discussions and decision making.

What are we looking for?

We do not limit this internship to specific qualifications, as we want to provide an opportunity that people can explore career possibilities with us. However, we are keen to welcome graduate/undergraduate students who are keen to utilise or further develop the following skills and strengths in real work environment.

·        Critical and logical thinking

·        Data intelligence analysis and interpretation

·        Organisational skills

·        Solutions focused and can-do attitude

An interest in sustainability and decarbonisation is not essential but will add value to your time with us. Whilst we are open to all qualifications, this role would be ideal for STEM graduates / students, data science graduates / students, construction graduates / students, finance graduates / students, or business graduates / students etc.

Salary: £12.82 per hour
